WESTERN SYDNEY UNIVERSITY & MADE IN THE WEST FILM FESTIVAL.
Illustration, Poster Design, Marketing.
I had the pleasure of working on a themed identity design for the Made in the West Film Festival, which was themed Outer Space (intergalactic traveller). 2023’s brief included an exciting mixture of elements from space, as well as whimsical, bright magical elements. For my concept, I created an astronaut that possesses magical powers, which is evident in them holding the orb from above. The story of the intergalactic traveller sparks curiosity in the audience as their face cannot be seen through the visor.
Combining cityscape views through an interesting low-angle perspective immerses the audience in viewing western Sydney through a futuristic lens. Throughout the city scene, I incorporated aspects of Western Sydney that often go unnoticed, such as the public buses, small business stalls and shops, as well as the iconic Roxy Theatre in Parramatta. I aimed to combine several aspects of multiple suburbs, not just Parramatta.
References to the film could be seen within the background of the illustration, such as the floating tether made of film. The colour palette chosen consisted of bright colours, almost cyberpunk futuristic themed fused outer space and the cityscapes. References to cyberpunk, which was inspired by the multi-award-winning film ‘Blade Runner 2049’ are evident in the background objects such as the neon signs, as well as the colour palette.
Some of the deliverables included A lightbox poster, a web banner and an award certificate which can be viewed below.
